Robert Hamlin-Wright established the company in 1990 with the aim of providing designers and wholesalers with a modern and flexible printing service enabling the possibility of generating new products without the inherent problems of holding stock.

Robert's background in the fashion and furnishing industries dates back to 1976, when he hand screen-printed fabric for all the leading couture fashion houses. During the 1980s he produced and marketed numerous furnishing and wallpaper collections.

In 2005, The Art of Wallpaper launched its first collection of wallpaper by Belynda Sharples which combined her uniquely creative talent of drawing and pattern making with [her partner,] Robert's printing skills.
